Step 8 - Narrator review

The next important step is to provide the narrator a copy of the transcribed interview to review to ensure accuracy.

Most importantly, they are to correct spelling of names. In this process, the narrator may check on a date that needs to be changed, or remember a name differently, or add some clarifying information.

When presenting the review transcript to the narrator, provide him or her with a definition of oral history and help them understand that this is the spoken word in print, and will not read like the written word.

An oral history transcript will provide the full experience of the narrator's speech patterns.
